Leftists Swedes have a kink about Malmö falafel, apparently this is the greatest food to ever grace this desolate land of the north…

The group with the highest dietary restrictions dominates cuisine similar to how corned beef, a Jewish dish, dominated Irish American cuisine and salted bacon did not. Now, Italian pork stores sometimes do exist but are less common. Most Viveros - road side abattoirs - are halal by default now too even in Latino neighborhoods. "Halal slop" as the default takeout has been a staple throughout North and Central China for almost 1000 years. My grandparents grew up on halal carts. My parents grew up on halal carts. I just ate from a halal cart an hour ago.

The white sauce is not tzatziki or tahini. It's ranch dressing. That's all American. BTW when I was a kid, most people believed I ate fried slop over French fries with BBQ sauce washed down with Sunkist every night. I was asked why are you so thin if you eat Chinese food every day because that's what people believed "Chinese food" was in the 80s and 90s. I also remember someone in my school thinking that Pakistani food was identical to "Halal cart" food as well before she tried some.

Talking of food stuffed inside flat bread, the largest burrito chain in India is run by a white

American immigrant with the surname Schmidt.

I just had dinner there.

The global spread of shawarma is interesting and has taken place through different mechanisms.

In Europe it seems to have mainly come via Turks. In the US via Levantine immigrants, re-enforced by a second wave of Pakistanis/Bangladeshis/Yemenis.

In India, it initially came via Israeli vacationers and was limited to tourist hotspots. There was a bit of presence on the western coast (Mumbai/Gujarat/Kerala) due to the Gulf connection. But it’s spread wide enough that you can find it even in small towns of Bihar now, largely due to returning guest workers from UAE.

Wow very variated info but interesting analysis. It seems to parallel our beloved Doner/Kebab places in Europe I guess serving cheap slop that you don’t ask about quality controls or where the meat came from.

As for the last part Global Riyadh can be seen as the sanitized part of the rise of global Jihadi groups who sought to purify, standardize and come back to the homogenous era of the Sahaba. Some lands are eacaping Riyadification and Dubaification thankfully like North Africa, Oman and the Stans/Iran.

At least the kebab in Europe is actual kebab. Or is it? IDK. Here, I don't know what it is, but I don't see any big kebab spits in most of these places. Wahhabi Salafism definitely played a huge part in erasing local Muslim culture. Iran is sort of resistant to it because it is Shia-led

Asmy's avatar

It is a mixed mystery meat in France and Spain, in Germany the Kebab is actually proper and you can choose chicken, lamb.

Iran has always always maintained their culture due to the extreme level of sheltering their own advanced culture gave them early on and their language, even if they were proper Sunnis they would still have Nowruz and a very special culture.

Similar to how Moroccan/Algerian's kept a distinct arab-amazigh mixed culture

This isn't necessarily true, Indonesia has been heavily influenced by wahabbism despite its islam nusantara culture, it's much more influenced by politics than just culture, since saudi arabia has been funding islamic movements in the region.

The main difference besides politics is that North Africans follow the Maliki school of Sunnism, which isn't as radical but was in many ways opposed to Wahabbism. Also, North African culture isn't just arab-amazigh, but was heavily influenced by European muslims (especially Iberians).

Moreover, Morocco funded maliki movements to counter salafists, the FLN in Algeria had a brutal civil war with the salafists, Tunisia had a dictatorship which to this day targets any muslims they suspect of being salafists (especially since the arab spring), as for Libya it basically counters the idea of culture since both the main militia groups are salafists ( a certain brand that originated in saudi arabia , well well well)

Also an interesting point to add, but the amazigh in tunisia and libya are usually ibadhi, which is the dominant sect in Oman.

European kebab is the same as American halal carts. Native born Americans eat halal/kebab carts after a night of drinking at 3 am which is ironic. American halal carts in NYC are mostly run by Bangladeshi people which is why there's an emphasis on rice and it's more flavorful, with cilantro sauce and cardamom in the rice. Get the green sauce.

I think I first ate from a halal cart in 2000 or 2001. They stepped into the shoes of the old Greek / Lebanese etc gyro spots that also sold more I guess authentic vaguely Ottoman transmitted cuisines like hummus, baklava, baba gannouj etc. My parents used to go out for that food in the 80s and 90s when I was young. I loved the baklava. I think Mamouns, Hummus and Pita Co, Taim, etc still has that kind of old school halal cuisine but it been rebranded as Israeli and stuff.

I frequently run into halal cart vendors who lived in my old neighborhood of Soundview as well as in parts of Queens. I was able to get serrano peppers on my BEC which is much more flavorful than jalapenos from some halal cart vendors who lived in Queens and purchased the hot peppers there.

Doner is like on a pita or gyro type thing because it was associated with Turkish culture at one point right? I've heard of French Tacos which sounds brilliant though and is related to halal cart culture in France.

I work in a capital city and its all brown people slop near where I work. God forbid I forget my lunch because everything is halal, indian, and vegan food.

Great poast! Funny and relatable. You can imagine the proportional increase compared to US in halalslop we have here I Europe based off our immigrant demographics. Most of it is horribly low quality. But it’s a nice cuisine wen done well…

-salutations from Sweidstan.

I've heard south Asians from New York don't buy from arab owned bodegas because arabs mix with non muslims too much (helps that most arabs in america are christian) and are very lax on dietary restrictions, it's a surprisingly common stereotype when I searched it up. Also, I'm surprised to see Mamdani praying, I genuinely thought he must've been an atheist, since his dad is a Marxist and all (I've read some excerpts of his works on revolutionary movements in east africa), his mom is also a hindu.

Additionally this leveling of Islamic practices worldwide has been a thing for around half a century or so, sufism seems much more sovlful compared to modern day islam which is just mechanical praying and searching up questions like is it haram to drink my wifes breastmilk, i recommend a twitter account called yookay, amazing specimens

Are you tired of kikeslop too?

The Talmud says the following:

And Rabbi Yoḥanan says: A gentile who engages in Torah study is liable to receive the death penalty; as it is stated: “Moses commanded us a law [torah], an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob” (Deuteronomy 33:4), indicating that it is an inheritance for us, and not for them.

For the same reason, the consumption of Jewchow (bagels, babka, pastrami) is as a matter of fact an act of rebellion against the Jewish vampire!

However, I think Kikeslop is extremely similar in origins to Halalslop, it was nothing more than a Kosherization of pre-existing German and Slavic meals.
